LARAVEL PLUGIN PHPSTORM UPDATE
What I tend to do to avoid the tedious task of running the command every time I update the packages’ list is to add it to the composer.json file to run every time on update.
The package is fully customisable, you can check the Github’s homepage for all of the configurations. gitignore (you don’t want potential conflicts when working with other people on the project). Then, you can simply run php artisan ide-helper:generate to generate the _ide_helper.php file and also add it to. Make sure it is only a require-dev dependency, you don’t want this on production. composer require -dev barryvdh/laravel-ide-helper.
LARAVEL PLUGIN PHPSTORM INSTALL
To install the package, head to your terminal, navigate to your project and use composer to install it. Laravel IDE Helper, as the name indicates, generates helper files based on your project for better autocompletion. Heuvel (make sure to follow him, he knows a thing or two about Laravel!). The package is called Laravel IDE Helper and it is maintained by Barry vd. However, to get the full power of it, you need to also install a certain package inside your project. The installation is pretty straightforward, you install the plugin inside PhpStorm ( Preferences/Settings > Plugins and you search for the wanted plugin inside the Marketplace’s section) and you activate it per project ( Settings/Preferences > Languages & Frameworks > PHP > Laravel). You can check the whole list of features on the plugin’s homepage. It is an absolute must-have! It doesn’t only include autocompletion, but also blade support and easy navigation between files. If you are a Laravel developer, you’ve probably already heard of this plugin. Even though it is not a long list, it can help you become more productive which is not only good for you but also your clients. The list that I’ll present you is nothing out of the ordinary and you’ve probably used some of the plugins already. However, this also greatly benefits the developer - you don’t need to find various plugins and manually set them up to get a common functionality. PhpStorm comes with a ton of functionality out of the box, and as we experienced in a previous email ( Getting Rid Of The Distractions), it might feel a bit too much. On top of that, the PhpStorm’s team are often introducing new updates in which they implement wanted functionality from the community that makes some plugins obsolete. Small disclaimer, the plugins are rapidly changing and from time to time you’ll find yourself switching from one to another for several reasons - performance, ease of use, etc. In this article, I’ll to talk about plugins that I use every day.
